Counseling Services & Programs

Core Curriculum Lessons: Counselors are often in classroom teaching lessons. Classroom lessons follow the Gwinnett County Counseling Competencies and Standards. Lesson topics focus on one of three domains: Academic, Social/Emotional, and Career.

Small-Group Counseling

Many students are invited to participate in small counseling groups. Small group counseling consists of four to six students working with the school counselor on a weekly basis for six to eight weeks. These groups can serve as a way of teaching new skills or reinforcing previously learned skills. Groups can provide support from the school counselor as well as from peers who are also in the same counseling group. Some of the small groups we offer throughout the year:

  • Grief Groups

  • Social Skills Small Groups

  • Friendship Groups

  • Here on Time Attendance Groups

If you would like your student to participate in our small groups, please feel free to reach out to your grade level counselor.

Individual Counseling

School counselors see students individually if/when they need assistance with a concern related to school or home. Students often request to see their school counselor; however, parents, teachers, administrators, and peers can refer students to see the school counselor. School counseling is NOT therapy. Individual counseling with the school counselor is brief and solution-focused. Please contact your student’s school counselor if you would like more information about more extensive counseling for a referral to a provider in our area.
